Henningsvær · Lofoten

Vol. I

Lofoten
Book Club

A social club for the occasionally antisocial.

Good books. Questionable opinions. Company, if you like that sort of thing.

I.Introduction

We gather around books, ideas and conversation, usually in that order, occasionally not.

Lofoten Book Club is open to anyone: people who read fifty books a year, people who abandon one halfway through, and people looking for a good reason to start again.

No reading list required to read this paragraph.

II.Upcoming Gatherings

The plot thickens.

Dates are announced here and in the newsletter first.

From page to screen

Join us in Leknes for a screening of Klara and the Sun, the film adaptation by director Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople). We'll see whether the big screen does the book justice.

III.Currently Reading

Klara and the Sun

Kazuo Ishiguro

For our very first gathering, we're reading Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, a Nobel Prize-winning author and one of contemporary literature's most compelling voices. Ishiguro also wrote Never Let Me Go, When We Were Orphans, The Remains of the Day, and An Artist of the Floating World.

Opinions may differ. Narrators may be unreliable.

The Books

IV.About the Club

An interesting cast of characters.

Reading is usually done alone, which is part of its charm. We simply think it's worth comparing notes afterwards.

The club exists for curiosity, connection and conversation. For the particular pleasure of discovering that someone else underlined the same sentence, or hated the book you loved.

V.Join the Club

An entirely unnecessary excuse to read more.

Consider this your footnote — a short note before each gathering, and nothing else.
